Privacy basics (PII scrubber)

What stays on your PC, what is sent to be analysed, and how the local scrubber removes personal details first.

The short version

  • Diagnosly looks at your PC to find the problem you described. It sends only what it needs for that.
  • Before anything leaves your PC, a local scrubber replaces personal details (usernames, your computer's name, IP addresses, MAC addresses, email addresses, keys and similar) with placeholders such as <USER> and <HOSTNAME>.
  • The AI works from the scrubbed text, not your raw files.
  • We don't sell your data and we don't use it to train AI models.
  • It is a strong safety layer, not a guarantee. Heavily disguised personal data can slip through, so don't type secrets into your problem description.

What the scrubber covers

It runs on your PC, in the background service, on everything that goes out:

Covered Example
Account and folder names C:\Users\alex\Documents becomes C:\Users\<USER>\Documents
Your computer's name ALEX-PC becomes <HOSTNAME>
Network identifiers Private IP addresses, MAC addresses
Email addresses alex@example.com becomes <EMAIL>
Keys and secrets Product keys, BitLocker recovery keys, passwords and tokens written as name = value
Windows identifiers Security IDs, domain-and-user names, network share paths

Some placeholders carry a short fingerprint instead of the value, so the AI can tell two different users apart without learning who they are.

What is sent

  • What you typed in the box.
  • The results of the checks and commands Diagnosly runs, after scrubbing.
  • Your tone setting, agent name and the notes you wrote under About you.

Diagnosly doesn't upload your files, and commands that would send files out are blocked.

What isn't sent

  • Your password for Diagnosly (it's stored only as a salted hash).
  • Your card number. Stripe handles payments. See Topping up.

Who sees it

The scrubbed text goes through our servers to the AI service that does the analysis. We use a small set of vetted providers, listed in our privacy policy. Our team reads what you choose to share, for example when you send feedback with the conversation attached.

What this isn't

  • A replacement for care with what you type.
  • An antivirus.
  • A guarantee. Treat it as defence in depth.

Managed fleets

Companies can replace the built-in rules with their own. That is in the Enterprise docs: Custom scrubber rules, which requires signing in.
