Your first diagnosis

A walkthrough of one diagnosis from start to finish, and what each part of the screen means.

This is a walkthrough of one typical diagnosis. You'll need the app installed and connected (see Installing the app) and some credits (see Topping up).

1. Read the first-run notice

The first time you diagnose, the app shows Before your first diagnosis. It explains that Diagnosly runs AI-generated PowerShell on your PC, that read-only checks run automatically, and that anything which changes your system waits for your approval. Choose I understand. Continue.

2. Say what's wrong

On My PC, type what you want help with, for example "why is my PC slow" or "Xbox Game Pass won't install". You can also press the microphone button to dictate.

Leave the box empty for a general health check. The button reads Diagnose my PC when it's empty and Ask Diagnosly when you've typed something.

Beside the button you'll see the Mode (Quick, Auto or Max) and the most a step can cost. Leave it on Auto if you're unsure. See Running a diagnosis.

3. Watch it work

A window opens with a live log. First Diagnosly takes a quick read-only look at your PC: recent errors, crashes, disk space, Windows updates and the busiest programs. Then it investigates from there. The status bar at the bottom shows what it's doing, how long it has taken and the credits used so far. Press Cancel at any time.

4. Answer or approve when asked

  • A question appears as a card with a text box or buttons. Answer and it carries on.
  • A plan appears when it wants to change something. Each numbered step is marked read only or changes. Tick what you want and press Approve selected. See What it can change, and how you approve it.

If you step away, it waits for you. Your answers are kept even if you close the app.

5. Read the result

When it finishes you see Diagnosis complete and a plain summary of what it found and did. Rate it with the thumbs under the result, which helps us improve.

If it fixed the problem, it may ask you to confirm with Working or Still broken.

6. Carry on if it isn't solved

Add what you've noticed and press Try again to start a follow-up. See Follow-ups.

What it cost

Your balance in the top bar goes down by what the diagnosis used. Most use a fraction of a credit. See How credits work.
